Calm + Sooth + Hydrate DIY Moisturizers for Sensitive Skin
I get so excited when I come across a DIY Skincare Recipe that is even better than I originally hoped it would be. That was the case when I created this Calming, Soothing, Hydrating Homemade Moisturizer. It’s light weight, anti-aging and totally calms the skin. But don’t take my word for it, my mom is the one that convinced me just how fabulous it was.
My mom has become the best guinea pig for my DIY skincare recipes! Not only is she required, by maternal obligation, to take part in the sampling of my skincare products but she’s also the best person to give me honest feedback. Be it good or bad, moms always give it to you straight!
Recently I whipped up my Calm Me Sweet Tea Foaming Facial Cleanser along with a new hydrating oil recipe that I’ve been playing around with and when she popped by I asked her to give it a try. Honestly, she didn’t seem to keen on using straight oil on her face, but she promised to give it a go. Even I was shocked by her reaction, when she visited me about a week later. She was swooning over her skin, the feel, the balance, the texture. I honestly have never heard her so excited about ANY skincare she’s ever tried. She said it was the best her skin had ever felt.
You have to understand, my mom has tried the fanciest, most expensive skincare and anti-aging products on the market – and MY little homemade recipes were her favorite! I was just blown away and had to dive a little deeper. As we talked she said she’d never thought about putting oils directly on her skin instead of heavier creams and moisturizers but she was shocked and excited to see just how much she loved using this light weight option. It made me realize that we’ve been ingrained to think only a thick, rich moisturizer can hydrate your skin and we’ve forgotten that simple oils are just as, if not more, effective for creating supple, youthful skin. Understandably, there is also a fear that oils will cause breakouts and congestion but nothing could be farther from the truth. Oils seep into the skin better, the ingredients are pure and natural and they do an exceptional job keeping your skin youthful.
So I thought I’d share my Calming, Soothing, Hydrating Oil that only requires 3 ingredients – and below I’m sharing why those three little ingredients are magical for the skin:
Rosehip Seed Oil
Rosehip Seed Oil is filled with Vitamin A is a super healing vitamin when taken internally or applied topically. The Oil is easily absorbed into the skin and is fabulous for healing & anti-aging. It’s considered a nourishing oil because of it’s therapeutic effects so it is perfect when paired with a carrier oil but can also be used on it’s own.
Jojoba Oil is the best! It is the closest in consistency to our own natural skin oils so it’s typically my 1st choice for most skin types. It absorbs into the skin quickly and brings oily and combination skin back into balance. It’s considered a carrier oil, quite affordable with a long shelf life, and can be the base for most hydrating oil infusions when mixed with a nourishing oil and essential oils.
Chamomile Essential Oil
Chamomile Essential Oil is from the Chamomile flower. It’s therapeutic effect is calming and soothing not only to the skin but to the spirit. There’s a reason it’s in your calming bedtime teas. When it comes to essential oils though, a little goes a long way, but you’ll appreciate it’s potency when you realize that it’s a little more costly than other essential oils. Have no fear, it’s worth every penny!
